Information and Communications Technology (ICT) now touches most organisations,
helping help them to drive up business value. Across the European Union, the
sector employs about 6% of the workforce and makes about 8% of EU GDP. The sector continues to drive about half of EU productivity gains in the private
sector. The EU has therefore much to gain in maintaining and developing this sector.
The European Commission's
ICT Task Force recommends policies that seek to improve the
ICT sector’s competitiveness and remove obstacles to greater ICT uptake. These include ensuring that legislation supports all
organisations to help them increase productivity and integration, and provide networking via ICT.
